Slide 1: The patient carries a diagnosis of atopic dermatitis and ichthyosis vulgaris. There are certain aspects of the biopsy that could be construed as atopic dermatitis-like in terms of the mild epidermal hyperplasia and parakeratosis with the perivenular lymphocytic infiltrate.

Slide 3: There are mast cells arranged around blood vessels, the nerves and the eccrine coil.
Slide 4: The CD117 preparation highlights the many mast cells that are present in this biopsy. The mast cells are accentuated around vessels, nerves and the eccrine coil on this stain corresponding to the distribution that is apparent on routine light microscopy.
Slide 5: In many high power fields there are over 100 mast cells whereby the mast cells have a very distinct spindled appearance.
